Outdoor Learning

Grounding
Spending extended time in new places, and revisiting familiar ones. Wandering, sitting, observing. Engaging on an intimate level, and finding alternative ways to socialize and harmonize with a range of kin.

I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.

Training
Learning, labouring, sweating a bit. Enduring tough days; enduring unkind weather; enduring bugs. Learning about the fragility of resources, appreciating them more, and thinking of better ways to work with them in the future.

In training applications, there is growth in teamwork, safe operation, and mechanical understanding. All training facilitated by professional trainers.

Playing
Try Again. Fail Again. Fail Better.
Samuel Beckett's mantra sticks with playing outside, whether unwinding for fun, finding pleasure in the harvest, or learning Traditional Ecological Knowledge. Play is a form of learning through trial and error, competition, methodology refinement, and reward.
Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn. — O. Fred Donaldson
